Top-Rated DIY Book Nook Kits - Bookshelf Memories

Top-Rated DIY Book Nook Kits

One of the most popular places to buy book nook kits is Amazon. However, finding the top-rated ones is a frustrating experience because sellers list multiple items in a single listing. The reviews get aggregated from several models, skewing the ratings.

That’s only one marketplace though, and most are the same designs sold under different brand names. Two of the biggest manufacturers of DIY book nook kits sold on Amazon are Rolife and Cutebee.  More unique designs can be found on other platforms, including Aliexpress, and Etsy.

In this list of the top-rated book nook kits, you’ll find a curation of pre-filtered DIY book nook kits to show the specific models with the highest ratings from the most popular sites for DIY book nook kits -  Etsy, Amazon, and Aliexpress.

These are not the most popular,  but rather, the best rated so it is going to be of interest to those looking for unique designs, different from the mass-produced kits. For more beginner-friendly and complete kits, take a look at our top 10 book nook kits under $100, which is the price range for the most popular designs.

5 Top-Rated Book Nook Kits from Several Online Stores

1. The Car Players DIY Book Nook Kit

The Car Players design would make a great gift for car enthusiasts who are into puzzling. It features an F1 race car, a motorcycle, and a classic vintage car. It lights up too!

The kit is available from more than one brand. It’s on Amazon under the ASLOWSNAIL brand name and on Aliexpress under the ATUBAN brand. Use a visual lookup tool like Apple’s Visual Intelligence or Google Lens to find the best deal.

Amazon has 22 ratings overall for this version, 15 of which were 5-stars and 5 were 4-star rated. Overall, it’s 90% positive.

2. Bookstore Book Nook by Rowood / Robotime

The Bookstore book nook kit is by Rowood (now Rolife, part of the Robotime Group) the largest book nook kit manufacturer in the industry. This is one of the easier to build kits. It is a 194-piece 3D wooden puzzle with no glue required. The kit is entirely snap-fit making it easier and faster to assemble.

Like the car-themed book nook kit, you can comparison shop this model too, only easier, because it’s part of the Robotime group. The brands to compare are Rolife and Rowood. Both are sub-brands of Robotime. The most reviewed version on Amazon is the Rowood Bookstore kit, which has 137 total ratings, of which 109 are 5-star rated, and 16 have a 4-star rating.

Overall, it’s a 91% positive rating.

3. Ink Rhyme Bookstore by Cutebee

The Ink Rhyme Bookstore seems to have flown under the radar as it's not as big a seller as other designs by Cutebee. This kit features exquisite details reminiscent of ancient China. On the ground floor is a calligraphy area, and on the upper floor is a poet at a desk reading an ancient script. The entire kit consists of 209 exquisitely detailed pieces, including LED lighting.

On Amazon, this model has 15 user ratings of 5 stars. None were disappointed so it scores highly with 100% positive feedback, although based on fewer customers.

4. Peter Pan Fairytale Book Nook DIY Kit

Cornels Creations is run by Corner Gheorgheas, based in England, UK. The company specialize in 1:48th scale miniatures. The Peter Pan book nook kit is made with poplar plywood, laser cut and ships as an unpainted DIY book nook kit with the lights included.

This model is better suited to those looking to put their own stamp on a quality book nook kit, without needing a laser cutting machine, or buying plain book nook kits to accessorize with miniatures. With this kit, all you need to do is paint, decorate it however you like, and then assemble it.

This model has 14 5-star reviews and the Etsy store overall has 1,054 mostly 5-star ratings and is a star-seller.

5. Townhouse DIY Book Nook Kit

The Townhouse book nook kit is the creation of Mirjam Karrenbrock of Tinyroomstherapy.com, based in Austria. This kit is made to a 1:24 scale, and ships as the model only. As inspiration for furnishing and decorating the kit, look up the address it’s based on - Brooklyn Bed Stuy 574 Macdonough Street. Brownstoner.com has a list of the top 10 Real Estate listings for the Bed Stuy area, complete with pictures. Ideal for design inspiration.

The Townhouse kit would be better suited to experienced miniaturist hobbyists as it’s made with “several layers of plywood and mat board” and is precision-cut without charring on the edges making it easier to paint. It does come semi-assembled. The drawback is the price, which is expensive for a DIY kit that doesn’t have lights or furniture.

A big advantage is that you can create a totally custom book nook furnished with 1:24 scale furniture and figures if you want. You could make a traditional townhouse, turn it into a restaurant, cafe, salon or anything you can imagine.

This model has 9 x 5-star ratings and 989 mostly 5-star ratings for the Etsy Store. 100% positive rating!

In Conclusion

The list above offers some unique designs over budget DIY book nook kits and there are a couple of kits that leave room for customization. Peter Pan is designed to a 1:48 scale and the Townhouse book nook kit is only for building a custom book nook from a kit as it’s not supplied with furniture. Any 1:24 scale miniature dollhouse pieces can be used with the Townhouse kit.

Something to note about the others, which are complete kits, is that they aren’t always made to a scale that can be easily customized. Rolife uses a custom scale for their kits of 1:18, 1:20, and 1:30. Cutebee is better known for miniature dollhouse kits made to the 1:24 scale so the Ink Rhyme Bookstore could be customized a little.
