from 58 reviewsTokyo Alley is a beautiful nook and was a lot of fun to make. Customer service was excellent- I had no problems but I did have a few questions, and Eric got back to me within a day or less. He also translated all the signs for me. The wiring was very easy especially compared to other kits and the lighting is spectacular. The manual was well-written and is also available as a PDF which makes it much easier to read because I can enlarge the print. Including a basic toolkit was a nice touch, especially the tiny magnetized screwdriver for the even tinier screws. I sand and paint the edges, and I did a good job of matching the brickwork. Looking forward to the next nook from Bookshelf Memories.
I am so happy with how the finished product came out! It looks beautiful sitting on my bookshelf and I feel a great sense of satisfaction knowing I managed to put it all together. As gorgeous as the book nook turned out, I am even more impressed by the customer service. I reached out to customer service after I accidentally broke one of the pieces I was working on and they got back to me right away and helped me out. I really appreciated the prompt support! Overall, this was a challenging yet enjoyable project. 10/10!
Love it! This was given to me and wife as a gift recently and it is one of the coolest gifts I’ve received. It looks amazing on our bookshelf, especially at night where the lights and optics of the mirror really stand out. I’m also a big fan of Japan so the scene really hits home with its authentic aesthetics.
I Had a great time putting it together. I was so inspired that I added some more elements to the Book Nook.
LOVED putting this together. I took it to another level by sculpting clay texture to the brick walls and added in moss and greenery. It was so fun and loved every minute of the process. My only sadness is that it's done, but enjoy looking at it lit up every evening. You guys need to create more!
The Tokyo Alley Book Nook was a pleasure to build, supported by the best instruction manual I've seen. (The company continues to update the instructions and add videos to make them even more helpful.) The finished scene, a nighttime reverie, is beautiful and evocative. I was able to make a couple of minor personalizations, adding greenery, adjusting lighting, and using a marker to add polish here and there. And I love that I can leave the book nook illuminated with a USB connection rather than having to change batteries whenever I want to show it off. I look forward to Bookshelf Memories' future products.
I completed my Tokyo Alley over 3 days, about 12 hours total, building at a leisurely pace. This kit is a good balance of providing the instructions needed, but also the patience and focus to get it right. I would recommend dry fitting and reviewing the well illustrated manual to ensure pieces are being assembled correctly. The pieces of the kit fit very precisely - if something isn't working, go back to the manual. The completed book nook looks even better than any pictures. The layout is well thought out and it is obvious the designers put a lot of heart and soul into the product. You will be challenged, and also rewarded in the end.
